I don’t think it is a good idea to throw random things into mercury, though! It is neurotoxic, which means it can damage the brain and the nervous system if you are exposed to it too much.
I’m not entirely sure, when I plan on mixing chemicals together I go and speak to the radiochemist in our department to see what he thinks
If you do it at room temperature mercury is the only one that is a liquid and both the iodine and thallium are less dense than mercury so they might just float on the top and nothing happens?
That’s my scientifically guided guess, do you know the answer? Have you tried it?
