      What a great question!

I guess I would have to say cancer – there are so many different types of cancer, and it hurts the lives of so many people it would be very good to see it go away!

In second place would be diseases like Alzheimer’s, because I think of my brain as being me, and the thought of my brain slowly breaking down as I get older is rather terrifying and I have had relatives who suffered from it quite badly.

I guess all diseases have some very terrible downsides, but when deciding I would probably try and pick the one which would help most people.

How about you? What disease would you cure if you could?

I would choose brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. These diseases affect people’s memories and personalities to such an extent that its really upsetting for family and friends because they feel like they don’t know the person anymore.

Aside from becoming a different person they’re also not able to look after themselves which means they have to be taken into care. Curing these diseases would make a big difference not just to the patient but also their loved ones. I play a small role as part of my job to study these diseases and discover early warning signals and causes so perhaps one day we will find a cure or at least a treatment that stops patients getting any worse.
