      Some slug pellets are known to contain Metaldehyde which is poisonous to pets such as cats and dogs.

      Like Thomas said, Metaldehyde is poisionous to slugs but also to pets.

      This is because the cells are very similar in slugs and other mammals and the poision will react in similar ways so it is poisonous to us too if used in high quantity.
